Soap Making made Easy

Solid types of soap can be altered in many ways. One of the most obvious things that you can change about soap is its shape and color. This will only require using different molds and dyes for your soap. But the other properties of soap may be also altered such as its lathering properties and texture. By changing these properties, bath time can be a lot more fun or you can use different designs to use as decorations for your bathroom.

A lot of people may think that the soap making process is very hard due to the many properties of soap that you can alter. On the other hand, it is quite easy to do, so easy that even small children can take up soap making as a hobby as long as there is adult supervision.

You will need to obtain your main ingredients, which are oil and lye. in addition to these, you may want to use other ingredients such as dyes, and fragrant oils to add to the appeal of your soap and give it the properties that you like. The tools that you will need are bowls, mixing tools, molds, and protective equipment to prevent yourself from getting injured due to contact with lye.

In addition to obtaining the tools and ingredients that you need, you will also have to do some research as to the recipe that you will need when making your soap. This way, you will know the exact amounts of the ingredients that you will need. You may also want to decide what method you are going to use in making soap, whether it is the hot method or the cold method.

Starting off with soap making, you should first wear your protective equipment so that you can avoid injuries caused by contact with lye. Next, lye will need to be dissolved in water completely. Once this is done, oil can be added to the solution so that the ingredients may undergo saponification.

Once the ingredients are completely mixed, you can already add your other ingredients such as coloring dyes to give your soap the color that you prefer. When you are finally satisfied with your soap mixture, you may now pour this into different molds to give them the shape that you want.

This soap will still need to be aged after hardening, especially if you used the cold method in making the soap. This will ensure that your soap is hard all throughout and that its properties are fully incorporated into the soap. This will usually take around 4 weeks before it is ready to use.

Once this is done, you may now put your soap in your bathroom to be used for showering, or just as a decoration for your bathroom. Other things that you can do with your soap are giving them away as gifts, or even selling them if you become really good in making these soaps.
